Anthony's Background

Anthony trained as a carpenter and after gaining useful experience working for others in a variety of trades, set off on his own taking on small projects with a small team. After impressing with his carpentry he requested to tender his first architect led project building a stone, slate and timber vehicle showroom for a collection of vintage cars. With a tireless work ethic Anthony completed the project on time and on budget and with a confidence and competence beyond his young years. Taken with Anthony's enthusiasm he was given the opportunity to tender for the next stage of the soon-to-be comprehensive renovation and new build scheme.

Anthony Branfield Carpentry & Building Ltd

After winning his first big tender, Anthony started to gather a team of likeminded tradesmen to take on his first large project, setting up Anthony Branfield Carpentry & Building Ltd. Anthony was quickly learning how to manage a full construction team and completed the project in impressive speed.

The client was taken with Anthony's approach and offered an opportunity to tender for the full multi-million pound scheme, including main house, listed building conservation, swimming pool, and extensive landscaping works. After winning the tender Anthony through himself into the project working long hours and managing upwards of 50 workers on site daily.

The client demanded a level of quality that has been unparalleled in any project since and the final finish was second-to-none. The successful build was in partnership with one of the South-West's leading architects and began a decade's long relationship of projects working alongside them.

North Devon Expansion

Barnstaple based Jonathan Rhind Architects had taken on a once in a lifetime project for the regeneration of a village centre in Woolsery, North Devon. Regularly covered in the news, a tech millionaire investor based in the US had bought the local pub in Woolsery where he used to holiday as a child visiting family. The project was to begin with a £2.5million refurbishment and extension of the historic Farmers Arms pub which had fallen into disrepair. After impressing in Somerset Anthony Branfield Carpentry & Building Ltd were approached to tender. As our first fully commercial project, it was an exciting opportunity and meant the team needed to grow. Andy Malam joined to run what would become a 7 year project encompassing not only the pub, but also the manor hotel, the village shop, a large new farm, multiple cottages within the village a car park and much more. The projects were getting outside attention winning LABC regional awards and nominated for several others including runner up to the Bristol Old Vic.

Building Portfolio

Alongside the ever expanding North Devon works, a wide range of projects continued to run alongside, including a shooting lodge, National Trust conservation work, church repairs, bespoke homes, swimming pools and more. Many of the specialist sub-contractors, M&E installers and consultants from Anthony's first projects would continue to partner with him, establishing long term working relationships with great respect, trust and collaborative mindsets.

DEVELOPMENT

After completing some of the largest domestic projects and a wide range of commercial, Anthony and Andy finally began working on a long held ambition to design and build new homes of their own creation. It was time for a rebrand and a company set-up that could encompass all we wanted to do as a business, so Anthony Branfield Construction Ltd was formed. With Andy's background in architecture and Anthony's as a skilled craftsman we began looking at house design in a new light. With what we know of construction techniques, both in terms of buildability and efficiency combined with years of achieving the most intricate of architect designed details could we design houses from the ground up that could meet the highest levels of luxury and fine detailing without costing the earth.
